Before and After care

Is this procedure a good fit for everyone?
This procedure is suitable for most people. However, if you have any of the following conditions, we will not be able to perform this procedure:

  • Pregnant and/or breastfeeding a child younger than 9 months

  • Are taking accutane or have taken accutane within the past 6 months

  • Have gotten botox/fillers in the forehead or brow area within the past 3 weeks

  • Undergoing chemotherapy (consult your doctor, we will need a note)

  • Skin irritations near the treated area, open skin near brows or sun damage

  • Diabetic (require doctor’s clearance)

  • Very sensitive skin & allergic to hair dye/tints/make up or skincare products

  • Trichotillomania or hair pulling disorder, as you will most likely pick your scabs

  • Prone to Keloids

  • Very sun-damaged and thin skin that bruise easily

  • Active Eczema, Keratosis, Dermatitis, Rosacea or Psoriasis on your face or around brow area.

  • Tending to have prolonged bleeding after getting a minor cut (being a "bleeder")

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?
There are a few things that we suggest to (not) do leading up to either your initial or touch up procedure:

  • Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis 2 weeks before procedure

  • Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face

  • Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to treatment

  • Discontinue products on your brows with Retinol/Glycolic Acid 2 weeks prior

  • Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior (natural blood thinner)

  • Do not tint your eyebrows within 14 days of the procedure

  • DO arrive with your brows penciled in for your appointment so we can see what you are used to.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor colour deposit:

  • Do not drink more than 1 alcoholic drink 24 hours before your procedure

  • Do not consume caffeine 3 hours before of your procedure

  • Do not take an aspirin/ibuprofen/advil for pain relief (blood thinner)

Helpful tips for the appointment:

  • Wearing a mask during the procedure (1 hour) would be appreciated, as we work 6 inches or closer above your face. This excludes upon entering the studio, taking pictures, mapping and numbing - as seeing your facial features without a mask will help me design a better brow for you.

  • The mask should cover your mouth AND nose if you wear one.

  • Do not arrive more than 5 mins early or 5 mins late for your appointment.

  • Wear your hair in a ponytail/bun and out of your face.

  • Tipping is optional, but a Google Review is much more appreciated.

  • Wearing mascara/eyeliner will make your close up pictures look amazing :)

  • Do not bring any guests/pets as the appointment is 2 hours long.

  • You will be laying down the entire time, so wear comfortable clothes.

  • Winter times, bring a blanket if you get cold easily as we cannot supply one (VIHA)

  • If you have a cough, cold, fever or sore throat please stay home and reschedule after 7 days.

The following must be avoided during all 10 days post-PMU procedures:

  • Increased sweating especially in face which will pull pigment

  • Washing your brows with an exfoliating/acne cleanser should be avoided.

  • No Vaseline, oils, Polysporin, serums or anti-bacterial ointment on your brows.

  • Hot Yoga, practicing sports, exercise, camping

  • Getting Lash Extensions/Fills, Massages, or Spray Tans

  • Swimming, snowboarding, skiing, boating, surfing

  • Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi

  • Sun tanning or salon tanning, having your brows in direct sunlight

  • UV/UVA Rays or chemicals as they have been known to cause a shift in color and premature fading

  • Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any creams containing Retin-A or Glycolic acid

  • Picking, peeling, or scratching your brow area to avoid scarring or removal of the pigment.

  • Do not put makeup or brow pencil on the brow area for a minimum of 10 days.

  • Do not use any other soaps/creams/oils or products on your brows until they are healed.

Reasons why your Microblading may not last long term: (avoid brow area)

  • You are using anti acne face/exfoliating wash over your brows the first 10 days

  • Products or creams that contains Benzoyl Peroxide, Hydroxy Acids, Glycolic Acid or Retin A/Retinol may cause a shift in colour and can turn the colour of your brows ashy over time or pull pigment during the first 10 days if used as a cleanser, moisturiser or serum over brows.

  • Your skincare are skin/cell renewal, skin regeneration or resurfacing creams or serums

  • You did not follow our after care the first 10 days or used other products.

  • Certain medications or smoking regularly

  • You get regular facials, use skin peels, IPL lasers or exfoliate a lot

  • You suntan or exercise regularly (sweating in face)

  • You have very oily skin with large pores

We recommend Touch Ups after 1 year as we don't want to create scarring and overwork skin if done too often.

How long is the recovery or healing time?

Immediately after your procedure and in the first 7 days, your brows will appear significantly darker, slightly red and more defined before they will heal true to colour. We understand that this can be a big change, but please try to not panic during the first ten days - as it is part of the process and the healing info is in your after care bag, as well as communicated by your technician after the procedure. Unless it is an emergency (if you feel like something is not right, your brows are aching after 24hours, swollen, oozy, etc) then please get in touch. Most clients who panicked comes back and want darker and thicker brows at their next session. You will be given everything you need for after care, so use what your technician supplies. Brows will slightly shrink and 30-50% of your brow colour will fade as the scabs flake off within 10 days. In some cases, healing can take up to 14 days. DO NOT PICK YOUR SCABS. The pigment is within the scab or flakes and you do not want to pull any pigment out of your skin prematurely. We all heal differently and what works on one client may not be effective on another so please do not compare your results. The complete healing of the skin takes approximately 4+ weeks before we do your Follow Up session. Your brows will look "normal" after 14 days post procedure, look like they are fading again as the epidermis is regenerating every month and shedding, and then the pigment will look like it return and be vibrant again. Follow Up appointments can not be done within 4 weeks after your First Session. It might look like your skin is healed after 10-14 days, but it lasts around 4 weeks for the body to repair broken blood vessels and replace tissue with healthy new ones.
